Abstract

Based on contributions from historical reading, bibliographical material and analyses of Louis Marin’s visual representation, this paper addresses the formats of a group of printed texts published by the gaucho-esque writer Luis Peréz between 1830 and 1833, specifically a series of loose leaf pages and the two newspapers El Gaucho and La Gaucha. Its aim is to explore links between the material features of these works, the type of reader which the author attempted to attract, and the meaning and ideology of his texts.

María Laura Romano, Instituto de Literatura Hispanoamericana (UBA) Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas

Profesora y Licenciada en Letras de la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Actualmente es doctoranda de la mencionada institución y profesora de Teoría y Análisis Literario en el Traductorado en Portugués del Instituto Superior en Lenguas Vivas “Juan Ramón Fernández”. Investiga los usos de la sátira y la gauchesca en la prensa partidaria del Río de la Plata y de Rio Grande do Sul del siglo XIX. Ha publicado artículos sobre el tema en revistas académicas y en actas de congresos.
