Bienestar de las vacas lecheras en los sistemas de compost barn

Los sistemas de producción de leche estabulados pueden presentan varios puntos críticos con respecto al bienestar animal, lo que no implica que no los puedan resolver y gestionar el bienestar en forma adecuada. El alojamiento del ganado lechero en camas de compost, con un correcto diseño y manejo, ha demostrado mejorar la salud y la longevidad de las vacas y, en consecuencia, el desempeño productivo de los animales. A partir de los resultados realizados a nivel mundial, los sistemas compost barn se presentan como una alternativa de estabulación amigable con el bienestar de los animales en comparación con otros sistemas en confinamiento. Sin embargo, todavía el número de investigaciones sobre el bienestar del ganado lechero en estos sistemas en Argentina y también en el mundo es escaso, por lo que sería aconsejable sumar estudios regionales para poder tener precisión en cuanto al impacto real y potencial sobre las vacas lecheras.
